PAUL 405 - FIRE: First-Year Innovation and Research Experience I

FIRE (First Year Innovation and Research Experience) is designed to support a successful transition to college life, both personally and academically. Mentored by upperclassmen, this course assists students in navigating campus resources, developing academic success strategies, and working collaboratively with their peers. The course encourages goal setting, innovation, research skills, and builds the foundation to be successful in the university and at Paul College through a year-long group project that extends into PAUL 406. PAUL 405 and 406 are required for all first-year students in Paul College.

PAUL 406 - First-Year Innovation and Research Experience II

Building on the foundation established in PAUL 405: FIRE I, this course guides students through the culmination of their year-long research projects with a focus on professional development, business plan creation, and effective presentation skills. Students refine their research into actionable strategies, incorporate sustainability and ethical considerations, and prepare polished business plans for real-world application. The course emphasizes professional communication, teamwork, and critical thinking, culminating in the FIRE Undergraduate Research Conference where projects are evaluated by alumni, faculty, and staff. PAUL 406 provides students with the skills, experience, and confidence to translate research into impact.

PAUL 407 - Paul Scholars Seminar

Credits: 1

Weekly seminar curriculum is designed to guide academically talented students to achieve their full potential, enhancing their overall educational experience at UNH. The course will expose the Paul Scholars to the high-impact opportunities available at UNH (study abroad, study away, research, etc.) and guide students in evaluating current and desired skillsets leading to the identification of experiences to close their skills gap. Students are responsible for attending and participating in all class sessions and other activities as assigned throughout the course.

PAUL 408 - Inclusive Leadership Fellows Seminar

PAUL 409 - Paul Academic Recovery Course

Credits: 1

PARC is a semester-long course designed for first-year Paul College students who have received an academic notice. The course focuses on helping students regain good academic standing by developing essential academic skills and strategies. Using the foundational pillars of preparation, action, reflection, and connection, students will learn to manage their time effectively, utilize resources, and foster a growth mindset. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the tools needed for continued success at Paul College and beyond.

PAUL 450 - Personal Finance

Credits: 4

This course will provide an overview of the personal financial planning process, including the establishment of goals and objectives, forecasting of lifetime income and expenditures, evaluation of investment options, money management, and understanding of all the many ways a person can achieve their financial goals through various strategies. The course covers the concepts, theories and analytical methods used in professional personal financial planning. Students analyze the effects of inflation, changing interest rates and taxation (high level taxation) on their investment decisions. The course is designed to expose students to all of the directly applicable mathematical formulas involved in the finance world that we utilize on a daily basis.

PAUL 505 - FOCUS: Finding Opportunities, Careers, and University Success

This course supports the success of second-year students at Paul College by helping them build a strong academic and professional foundation. Through online assignments, peer-led workshops, program events, and campus partnerships, students will explore academic pathways, prioritize personal and professional development opportunities, and connect their interests to future career opportunities. Emphasizing both individual growth and community engagement, the FOCUS Program fosters an inclusive environment that elevates student well-being, university success, and career readiness. PAUL 505 is required for all second-year students at Paul College.

Participants are expected to perform such functions as leading discussion groups, assisting faculty in undergraduate courses that they have successfully completed. For juniors and seniors with 3.0 or better cumulative GPA. No more than four credits may be earned for their role as an instructional assistant in any one course. Permission of instructor and undergraduate programs office required.
