Leaves of Absence
Students on an approved leave of absence must be eligible to return to UNH when they take a course at another institution. If a student is not eligible to return at the time the course is completed, the credit will not be considered for transfer.
World Language Courses
Depending on a student’s prior language study and the level of the coursework, transfer credits may be considered to fulfill the Bachelor of Arts World Language Proficiency Requirement or may count as general elective credit toward the total credits required for the degree program.
Bachelor of Arts – World Language Proficiency Requirement Credit
Elementary-level language courses may be considered to fulfill this requirement:
- If the coursework is in a different language than the student studied for two or more years in high school.
- If the student completed the coursework in high school through an approved college dual enrollment/credit program (e.g. Running Start, Early College, etc.).
- If two or more years of an elementary-level language have been completed in high school and the student later completes elementary-level coursework in the same language at a college or university, the transfer coursework must be completed at least five years after the student last studied the same language in high school.
- If two or more years of an elementary-level world language have been completed in high school within the previous five years, transfer credit coursework in the same language must be completed at the intermediate level or higher.
Some majors may accept American Sign Language (ASL) courses to fulfill the BA World Language Proficiency Requirement. Refer to the program requirements in the academic catalog to determine if ASL courses are accepted for a specific major. ASL courses follow the same elementary and intermediate-level course requirements as any other world language course.
General Elective Credit
Effective Fall 2025, students that have completed two or more years of a language in high school may be eligible for general elective credit for transfer credit in the same language. Transfer credit will count toward the total credits required for the degree program.
Transfer Credit Prior Approval
Current undergraduate students at UNH Durham or UNH College of Professional Studies, Manchester must request a transfer credit prior approval before enrollment in a course at another institution.
Requesting a transfer credit prior approval allows students to plan future transfer coursework and ensures the course is eligible for transfer to UNH. Additionally, the evaluation determines whether a course will fulfill any specific program requirements, such as major, minor, Discovery, or elective credits.
UNH College of Professional Studies, Online students should visit the CPS Transfer Credit Evaluation webpage for details on how to request a transfer credit evaluation.
Prospective or incoming UNH transfer students should visit the Office of Admissions transfer webpage for details on how to request a transfer credit evaluation.
